Levie “Neomi” Mathies, 77, passed away on September 10, 2026, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was born on August 1, 1949, in Monroe County, Mississippi to the late Felix Pierce and Sarah Catherine Freeman Pierce.
Neomi will be remembered with love by those who knew her and by the family who shared in her life through the years. Neomi was a very happy person, easy going, and just laid back living life with a smile on her face. Her family meant the world to her and her soulmate, Bob Mathies, was her best friend with whom she made many great memories together. She had a close friend, Carolyn Robinson, whom was cherished as well. Neomi often did word find puzzles, was memorized by hummingbirds, and she liked to collect odds and ends like cookie jars and salt and pepper shakers.
She had a heart of joy and loved the Lord. Neomoi was a member of the Church of Christ and she enjoyed worshipping the Lord around her church family. Neomi loved God so much that she often purchased extra Bibles and would hand them out to those that didn’t have one. She wanted everyone to know Jesus. Gospel music was her favorite type of music and she enjoyed donating to great charities like St. Jude.
Her home was always clean and tidy and anytime someone would suggest something to her, she always was so kind and supportive and would say “Sounds Like Winner to Me”. Neomie made everyone feel special and her cheerful demeanor will be so missed.
She was preceded in death by her father, Felix Pierce; her mother, Sarah Catherine Freeman Pierce; her husband, Bobby “Bob” Mathies; her sister, Nollie Ann Pierce; her brother, William “Wesley” Pierce; her nephew, Bobby “BW” Plaxico; and her niece, Lisa Powell.
She is survived by her sisters, Wendy Pierce, Mary Pierce Wells, and Dean Pierce Reeves and by her brothers, Billy Pierce and Robert Pierce. She also leaves behind her nieces, Billie Threadgill, Amanda Pierce, and Hope Bryan; and her nephews, Les Threadgill, Ben Powell, and Victor Rollinson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Vicky Threadgill. Their memories of Neomi, and the love they shared with her, will remain a lasting part of her family’s story.
As her family and friends mourn her passing, they also honor her life and hold close the many fun memories that connected her to them. They all know that she loved the Lord and she set a great example of how to love others.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 123:30 pm, on Monday, September 14, 2026, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery, with Pallbearers being Les Threadgill, Bruce Threadgill, Victor Rollinson, Robert Pierce and Jerry Pierce. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday at the funeral home in Amory from 10:30 am until the service hour.
Donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Childrens’ Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN.
