THE SHOALS-The Shoals Area Labor Day Festival is the oldest in Alabama and will celebrate its 107th year on Monday, September 7th.
It is that time of year to gather in solidarity, unite and celebrate. It is a time to honor Labor Unions along with all workers across our great nation. The working men and women who have helped change the way our country views its workforce today.
Labor Day is a day to honor Labor Union’s who vigilantly advocated for very specific improvements in working conditions. Working Conditions were unsafe and relentless with work weeks of 7 days a week and daylight to dark work hours.The legacy left behind is a workforce that is afforded economic freedom and liberty since the first unofficial Labor Day Parade (10,000 workers strong) walked the streets in New York in September 1882. It became a federally recognized holiday in June 1894 after the Pullman Strike in Chicago of May 1894. During the strike many workers lost there lives.
In order to mend relations with workers, Congress rushed legislation and President Grover Cleveland signed it into law on June 28, 1894 that the first Monday in September would the Labor Day Holiday.

Come one, come all, and enjoy the music, food, car show, giveaways and hear from political speakers running for Alabama State Offices who support the middle class working Alabamians.
Doug will be the Grand Marshal of the parade in Downtown Tuscumbia at 10am. Doug Jones is the grand marshal for the Labor Day Parade! He along with other candidates will be speaking at the Labor Day festivities. Anyone on the fence about who to vote for come on down and listen to what Doug has to say!
The festival in Spring Park will start at 11am.
