Nelda Marie Verhine, beloved mother and friend, passed away peacefully on August 31st, 2026 at the age of 67 in Scottsboro, Alabama. She was born on December 5th, 1958.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathina Hollaway and Janice Saint.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Verhine; father, Buddy “Red” Verhine; and brother, Billy Verhine.

She leaves behind a lifetime of love, memories, and moments that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Nelda had a beautiful way of finding happiness in the things she loved. She loved Alabama, baby dolls, coloring, Disney, jewelry, and going shopping. Those brought her joy and forever remind us of her. There are no words that can truly express how much we will miss her. We will miss her voice, her presence, her smile, and simply knowing she was here. We will miss being able to call her mom. Losing you has left a space in our hearts that no one else can fill. But we will carry you with us every day. Your love will continue through us, and a part of you will always live on in your daughters. Until we meet again, mom, please know that you were loved beyond words, missed beyond measure, and will never, ever be forgotten. We love you mom forever and always.

The family will receive friend on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Scottsboro Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel with Brother Jamie Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Special thanks to friends and staff at Cloverdale and Enhabit Hospice.
