Funeral Services for Ms. Mary Kay Butler, age 61 of Lineville, will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville at 5:00 P.M. with Rev. Brandon Johnson officiating.

Ms. Butler passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham. Ms. Butler was born and raised in Willoughby, Ohio, but moved to Alabama in the early 80’s. Ms. Butler spent most of her adult life in Lineville, where she raised her family. She was an all-sports athlete for Jacksonville High School, holding several records in Girls Basketball, and even received an offer to play for the Jacksonville State University women’s basketball team. Ms. Butler worked in retail management for nearly 25 years, and was especially known for her hard work, determination, and fierce no nonsense attitude. Her love for sports never left her even during her working career. She served as the Lineville High School Secretary in 1997 through the early 2000’s, coached the LHS girls basketball team, and several city league softball teams. Outside of sports, She loved spending time cutting her grass,

finishing jigsaw puzzles, and other crafts. Her favorite hobby always involved cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events and activities. Ms. Butler was loving and kind, yet strong willed and stern. She was always trying to help those in need, and show support to those who needed it. Ms. Butler was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt,and friend.

Ms. Butler is survived by three daughters: Brittany Butler of Atlanta, GA, Brandi Butler Sprayberry (Wade) and Bridgett Butler Harris (Micheal), both of Lineville; five grandchildren: Braden, Brileigh, and Blair Sprayberry, Ashton and Lydia Harris; four sisters: Jeanne Pickering of Cleveland, OH, Beth Cain of San Diego, CA, Patti Parsons of Cragford, and Nancy Kuenz (Dave) of Rome, GA; one brother, Edward Trepanier of Willoughby, OH; plus a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Edward Jean and Sarah Halworth Bishop Trepanier, and one sister, Susan Wantz.

Her visitation will take place on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville beginning at 3:00 P.M. until service time at 5:00 P.M. The family will accept flowers.
