  Obituary of Roy Mack SmithRoy Mack Smith, 78, passed away August 24, 2026, at his home with his loving wife, Janet, by his side.

He was born on October 26, 1947, in Limestone County, AL.

Mack was a lifelong resident of Athens, an Eagle Scout, and a proud Army veteran. Following his military service, he began a long career at Redstone Arsenal, where he supported various programs until his retirement.

Mack loved summers on the Elk River, where his family lost count of how many people he taught to waterski. In his 70s, he joined a pool league, and he also enjoyed Sun Drop and racing remote-controlled boats. Above all, he was devoted to his family and never missed his daughter’s or grandchildren’s performances, ball games, or swim meets.

Mack is survived by his wife, Janet, of 55 years; his only child, Amanda; two grandchildren Haylee Lowery (David) and Jacob Davies; one great granddaughter, Amelia Lowery; one great grandson, Charlie Lowery; one sister, Mary Ann Gordon; Uncle Jimmy Hargrove, Aunt Ruby Smith, many sisters- and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents James Croley and Mildred Hargrove Smith.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 1:00-2:45 P.M.

There will be a Private Graveside for Family only.
