On June 19, 1958, Betty married the love of her life, George Robert Capps. Together they shared more than 62 wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, commitment, and family. George was truly the love of Betty’s life, and the years they shared were among her greatest blessings. She was a devoted wife and mother who found her greatest joy in those she loved.

Betty began working at Sears in Florence in 1974 and remained a dedicated employee until her retirement in 2010. During her 36 years with the company, she was known for her strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to her work. These qualities reflected the same dedication she brought to every part of her life.

Her Christian faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Betty was a longtime member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Florence, where she faithfully taught Sunday school for many years. She loved sharing her faith with others and touched many lives through her kindness, service, and devotion to God.

Above all, Betty treasured her family. Affectionally known as “Mama Betty” to her grandchildren, she took great pride in being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family was her greatest treasure and she delighted in the time they spent together. The love she shared, the lessons she taught, and the memories she created will remain a lasting part of her family’s lives.

Betty is survived by her daughter, LaDonna Owens (Frank); her son, Randy Capps (Gena); and her sister, Nancy Childers McAfee. She also leaves behind four grandchildren: Josh Owens (Bethany); Jesse Owens (Tiffany); Chandler Capps (Angela); and Tori Capps; five great-grandchildren: Landon Owens, Benjamin Owens, Gavin Owens, Emma Owens, and Carter Owens. She is also survived by her nieces and their husbands, Phyllis Crocker (Larry); Lydia Collins (Butch); as well as Mike Murks, husband of her late niece, Charlotte Denise Murks.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Robert Capps; her parents, Elmer and Viola Pigg; her parents-in-law, Jessie and Ruthie Capps; her brothers-in-law, Gayrell Childers and Bud McAfee; and her niece, Charlotte Denise Murks.

Betty will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her devotion to George, her strong work ethic, and most of all, the unconditional love she had for her family. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the generations of family she so dearly loved.

To those who knew and loved her best, she will always be “Mama Betty”, whose love, faith, and cherished memories will remain in their hearts forever.
