Sue was born June 27, 1940 in Canton, Georgia. She was a graduate of Albertville
High School, Snead State Junior College, and the University of Alabama, where she
was a Magna cum Laude graduate in Human Services and received her Masters
Degree in Social Work. In 1983, she was awarded the National Institute of Mental
Health stipend for her collegiate studies.
As a long-time resident of Albertville, Sue spent her professional life serving others in
the community as the Director of Social Work Services for Marshall Medical Center
South, a Psychotherapist and an Internal Employee Assistance Professional for
Marshall Health System, and as a part-time instructor at Snead State for Psychology
and Sociology. She was recognized on countless occasions for her tireless work
across organizations. In 1985, she was voted as the Albertville BPW Woman of the
Year. In 1995, she was awarded Distinguished Service by Hospice of Marshall
County.
Sue was a passionate volunteer in the community, providing expertise to religious
organizations, health and human services professionals/organizations, under-
graduate/graduate students, as well as many citizen and civic groups. She served on
the Board of Directors for Hospice of Marshall County from 1989 to 1995 and served
on the Board of Directors of Hope Place (a Domestic Violence Shelter). Sue was also
a member at the First Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School.
Most of all, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and wife.
Sue is survived by her husband Lowell Moultrie, her son Charles (Angie) Massey, her
son Richard (Bain) Massey, and daughter in law Reshia Massey, 8 grandchildren
(Josh, Kristin, Andrew, Lauren, Jameson, Whitt, Meri, and McCallie), and 9 great
grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her husband Robert Massey, son
William (Bill) Massey, and daughter Cynthia Massey Mann. A service for the
immediate family will be held. The family thanks Lakeshore Senior Living and
Shepherd’s Cove for their care in the last few years and days of her life. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests donations to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice.
