Jackie Wayne Deaton, 91, of Florence, passed away on August 20, 2026, at home. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for TVA garage. He was a member of Woodmont Baptist Church and Greg Hammond’s Sunday School Class. He was a member of the “Faithful Flexers” exercise class at Woodmont led by Mary Jane Creel.
Visitation will be at Greenview Funeral Home on August 23, 2026, at 1 – 2:30 p.m.
The funeral will be in the chapel at Greenview immediately following at 2:30 p.m. with Tim Akers officiating. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Park with Jim Warren officiating.
Jack enjoyed his family. He enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid walker and enjoyed visiting with fellow walkers and neighbors. He attended the “Faithful Flexers” class 3 days each week to exercise and socialize. He enjoyed countryside car rides and eating out. His favorite was breakfast at Jacks. He loved problem-solving, especially problems that he could solve with his hands. He enjoyed his Sunday School class and attending church services each Sunday at Woodmont Baptist Church.
Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Petty Deaton; parents, Alfred and Lavelle Deaton; brothers, Basil, Braxton (Naomi), Joe (Jan) and Jimmy (Betty) Deaton; Brothers-in-law, Jerry Hughes and Bill Petty; sister-in-law, Betty Hubbard
He is survived by his sons, Paul Deaton (Tamela), Killen, AL, and John Deaton (Deborah), Melrose Park, PA; daughter, Pam Hagood (Randy); sisters, Beverly Shannon and Vicki Hughes, Golden, MS; grandchildren, Wes Hagood (Maggie), Hoover, AL, Ryan Hagood (Kelli), Hoover, AL, Meredith Wetzel ( Matt), Fosters, AL, Anthony Deaton (Samantha), Rogersville, AL, Adam Deaton (Amanda), Killen, AL, Matthew Deaton, Melrose Park, PA, Tim Deaton, Melrose Park, PA, Jonathan Deaton, Philadelphia, PA; great-grandchildren, Lexi Burgess (Austin), Mark Livingston, John Sertler, Xander Deaton, Sydney Deaton, Karli Deaton, Eli Deaton, Devin Deaton, Izac Deaton, Abby Hagood, Lynkin Wetzel, Ava Hagood, Tyler Hagood and Emma Hagood.
Pallbearers will be Wes Hagood, Ryan Hagood, Matthew Wetzel, Jason Deaton, Anthony Deaton, and Adam Deaton.
We want to thank all of his friends and neighbors who have visited him, brought meals, and given rides. Thank you to Alabama Hospice of the Shoals for excellent care, especially his nurse Heather.
