John Raymond Knoll Jr's obituary picture John Raymond Knoll Jr., age 76, of Saks, Alabama, passed away on August 13, 2026.
Born on April 6, 1950, John grew up as the adventurous eldest of five children in a Catholic home. As a boy, he spent endless hours swimming and canoeing through the waterways of Mobile, Alabama, often terrifying his mother by bringing home live snakes carried in pillowcases. An athlete in his youth, he loved playing soccer and rugby. He cherished boyhood summers visiting his grandparents in St. Louis, Missouri. John attended McGill Institute in Mobile and went on to earn his degree from Spring Hill College.

An entrepreneur and big-picture dreamer at heart, John built a diverse and energetic career across many industries. Alongside his former wife, Bobbie, he owned and directed Care-X-Cel Preschool—one of his most cherished roles, where he was affectionately known as “Mr. John” to students and staff alike. He later owned and operated a Checkers franchise, as well as Dealer Specialties car service. John also spent many dedicated years in newspaper distribution, managing regional circulation for major publications including USA Today, The Anniston Star, and the Times-Georgian. John poured his heart into everything he undertook, inspiring those who knew him best to work hard, play harder, and dream big.

Beyond his professional life, John had a boundless curiosity for God’s creation. He was fascinated by science—especially the mysteries of space—and expressed his creativity through woodworking and photography. A natural jokester who loved a good time, John lived his core values out loud in the way he treated every single person with compassionate affability. He truly believed the best of everyone, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, optimism, and warmth.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Paula; his children, Kelley (Kenneth) and Audra; along with Carrie (Jon), Landon, and Mia, who brought immense joy and purpose to his life. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Jake (Breanna), Milana, Rose, and Baela; his great-grandchildren, Tatum and Parker; and his siblings, Cathy (Clyde), Doug (Renee), and Sarah (George).

In keeping with his wishes, a private family gathering will take place in Mobile, Alabama, to celebrate his life and scatter his memory along the coastal waters he loved so much. In remembrance of John’s fun-loving nature, the family invites friends and loved ones to set off fireworks in his memory, share their favorite stories, and celebrate a life brightly lived.
