Dwight Gene Watkins, 68, of Scottsboro, Alabama, passed away on July 22, 2026, in his home. He was born on November 1, 1957.
Gene grew up in Owens Cross Roads and played football for New Hope High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. After leaving the Army, he started his own construction company, T and G Construction, and discovered his love for Arabian horses. He was a Scottsdale National Champion Arabian trainer. Most of all, he loved his family as much as they loved him.
Gene is preceded in death by his grandparents, Oba and Ada White; his mother, Louise Passon; his son, Justin Watkins; his brothers, Dale Passon and Derrell Passon; his nieces, Amanda Bates and Vanessa Bates; and his brother-in-law, Jeff Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Watkins; his brothers, Freddy (Melinda) Whitworth and Terry (Brenda) Passon; his sisters, Rhonda Kay (Mike) Bates and Virgina “Ginny” Miller; and his sister-in-law, Kathy Meeks Passon.
The family has planned a Celebration of Life for Gene at Grace Family Worship Center in Hazel Green, Alabama, on August 22, 2026, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.
