With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Michael Lee Newsome, who left this world
on August 14, 2026, just shy of his 41st birthday. Born on August 29, 1985, in Augusta, Georgia,
Michael later made his home in Cullman, Alabama, where he built his life and friendships. He
was a cherished son, brother, grandson, and loved member of a large, blended family. His gentle
nature, warm heart, and quiet strength will be remembered always.
Michael faced many challenges in his life, including a long struggle with addiction. In 2024, he
experienced a powerful turning point when he found Jesus and was saved. Even after that, he
continued to battle his demons, but he did so with a renewed sense of hope and faith. His family
holds dear to the promise that he is now in heaven, finally at peace, held in the grace he sought
and believed in.
Michael worked in HVAC, following in the footsteps of his father, and was known for his
dedication, skill, and willingness to help anyone who needed him. He had many friends who
loved him deeply, and his presence brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.
He leaves behind his mother, Tammy Golden Sawyer, and her late husband, Serman K.
Sawyer; his father, Bruce Newsome, and his wife, Rachael; and his brother, Cody A.
Newsome, all residing in Augusta, Georgia. He is also survived by his grandparents, James and
Betty Golden of Cullman, Alabama, and Wilton “Chubby” Newsome. He was preceded in
death by his paternal grandparents, Rick and Dollie Pampuch, who welcomed him home with
love.
With a blended family, Michael was surrounded throughout his life by numerous stepbrothers,
stepsisters, cousins, aunts, and uncles — each of whom held a special place in his heart. His
absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, and those who loved him are still learning how to
move forward without him here.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date in Georgia, where family and friends
will gather to honor Michael’s memory and the love he shared with all who knew him.
Cullman Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
