Dennis Edsel Clowers of Huntsville, AL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12th at the age of 79.

Dennis was born in Knoxville, TN on Dec. 12, 1946 to Ella Faye Clowers and Cecil Edwin Clowers. He graduated from Huntsville High School in 1964. He went on to earn his B.S. degree in Finance from The University of Alabama with a concentration in real estate. Dennis shared 53 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved first wife, Patricia Ledbetter Clowers. Their life was filled with love, family, memories, and a bond that remained a treasured part of who he was. After Pat’s passing, Dennis was blessed to find love again and married Rebecca Taylor Clowers, with whom he shared the final four years of his life. Their marriage brought companionship, care, and a new chapter during his later years. Dennis was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and co-founded The University of Alabama Real Estate Association for students. After a brief stint in the mortgage business in Nashville, Dennis and his late wife, Pat, spent over five decades establishing and operating a successful real estate development company in Huntsville. Dennis was also proud to have served as President of the Huntsville Madison County Homebuilders Association. He was also a United States Army Veteran and later served his country in the National Guard.

Dennis will be remembered as a man of great character and integrity who would befriend anyone. His favorite poem, “If” by Rudyard Kipling, served as his guide for a life of service. He passed on these values to his children by having them memorize and recite the poem at an early age. In his free time, he enjoyed home improvement projects, boating, and later golf and tennis in retirement. Dennis loved adventure including flying airplanes and taking RV trips. He loved his VW bus which was a piece of his personality. After his retirement, he and Pat enjoyed becoming snowbirds, spending time in Venice, FL and making memories together.

His faith in Jesus was at the center of who he was. He loved his church, served as an usher, and never hesitated to share the love of Christ. Dennis handmade wooden crosses to give away as a reminder of the Gospel and the hope we have in Christ.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Rebecca Taylor Clowers, sons Jason (Carolyn) and Chris (Suzanne), daughter, Catherine (Jay Wynn), 8 grandchildren – Lily (23), Sarah (20), Fisher (18), Hayes (14), Rory (7), Tripp (4), Willow (3), Callan (2) and sisters, Cecilia Barfield (Louis) and Teresa Kravitz (Gregg). Dennis was also dearly adored by several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to all those who cared for him throughout his final days. North Alabama Hospice, Loving Spaces (Katie), and Huntsville Hospital Family Care Hospice brought compassion, care, and comfort not only to him, but also our entire family.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 18, 2026 from 10:00 am -11:00 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 in the chapel at Laughlin Service Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Boys and Girls Club of Huntsville, PO Box 73, Huntsville, AL 35804 or Huntsville Hospital Foundation, 699-A Gallatin Street, Huntsville, AL 35801.
