Mattie Sue Alexander, 89, of Tuscumbia, AL, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, August 8, 2026. Visitation will be held at Colbert Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 from 2-3 with a service to follow at 3 pm in the chapel. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Bro. Sammy Wallace will be officiating.
She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. Sue was an avid seamstress and loved caring for her family. She was a former member of the Tuscumbia Senior Citizens Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Wyatt Alexander; parents, Ollie and Mattie Young; and sister, Carolyn Smith.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan (Bobby) Pendergrass of Tuscumbia, AL, Vanessa (Eddie) Johnson of Falkville, AL, and Tabatha (Allen) McDowell of Florence, AL; grandchildren, Caleb (Millicent) Pendergrass, Seth (Kara) Pendergrass, Lucas (Spring) Johnson, Leah Johnson, and Alex (Allyson) McDowell; great grandchildren, Josephine and Wyatt Pendergrass, JD and Francis Pendergrass, Benjamin Johnson, and Eliza and Ezra McDowell.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Pendergrass, Seth Pendergrass, Lucas Johnson, and Alex McDowell. Honorary pallbearers will be Wyatt and JD Pendergrass, Benjamin Johnson, and Ezra McDowell.
