In Loving Memory of Arkadi Golovkin September 21, 1949 – August 3, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Arkadi Golovkin, who peacefully departed this life on August 3, 2026, at the age of 76.
Arkadi was born on September 21, 1949, in Kirovgrad, Russia. He graduated from the Maritime Academy and devoted many years of his life to serving as a ship captain, navigating both the seas and inland waterways. His love for the water, steadfast work ethic, and calm, confident leadership defined his career and earned the respect of those who worked alongside him.
In 1992, Arkadi and his family came to Cullman, Alabama, seeking life-saving treatment for his daughter, Anastasia, who was battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Through extraordinary courage, sacrifice, and determination, he embraced a new beginning in America. He later built a successful career as an engineer with Ingram Barge Company, where he continued to exemplify the same dedication and integrity that had guided him throughout his life.
Arkadi found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, woodworking, and crafting beautiful hand-carved pieces that reflected his patience, skill, and creativity. More than anything, he treasured time spent with his family. His greatest happiness came from being a husband, father, and grandfather, and his grandchildren brought him immeasurable pride and joy.
For 53 years, Arkadi shared a loving and devoted marriage with his beloved wife, Valentina Golovkina. Together they built a life founded on love, resilience, and unwavering commitment to one another. Through every triumph and every challenge, they remained side by side, creating a legacy of strength and devotion that will continue to inspire their family.
Arkadi was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his cherished daughter, Anastasia Golovkina.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Valentina Golovkina; his daughter and son-in-law, Olga and Alan Hislop; his grandsons, Andrey Scroggins and Nicholas Scroggins; his step-grandchildren, Preston, Josh, Tate, and Lukas Hislop; as well as many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Arkadi’s life during visitation on Saturday, August 8, 2026, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Cullman Funeral Home and Crematory in Cullman, Alabama. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., with interment immediately afterward. The funeral home address is 461 U.S. Hwy 278 E, Cullman, AL 35055
As a captain who devoted his life to the sea and the river, Arkadi has now embarked on his final voyage—a journey beyond the horizon. Though he has sailed beyond our sight, the love he shared, the strength he embodied, and the memories he created will remain a steadfast anchor in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
