Donald G. Jacks of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on August 1, 2026, at the age of 78.
Donald was born in Huntsvile on February 29, 1948, to J.B. and Rubie Jacks. As a leap-year baby, he was known to share good-natured humor about celebrating his birthday only once every four years.
A skilled mechanic, Donald generously shared his knowledge with friends around the world, helping others build and maintain engines while staying connected with an online community of car enthusiasts. He also spent many years drag racing in Virginia, where he earned several trophies.
Donald also had a deep affection for animals and was especially fond of the unique cats that became part of his life.
For more than 30 years, Donald lived with Chiari malformation. Although the condition first caused him to lose the use of his right arm, he continued working until its progression began affecting his legs and later his left arm.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Jacks, of Virginia; brothers Clark Jacks (Gwen) of Hawaii and Larry Jacks (Glo) of Huntsville; sister Barbara Beal (Tommy) of Huntsville; and several nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Rubie Jacks, and his brothers, Steve and Thomas Jacks.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 6, at 1pm at Concord Cemetery with Pastor Scott Gossett officiating. Friends will be received at the cemetery beginning at 12:30pm.
Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
