Jeanette Murphy, age 95, passed away on July 31, 2026. She was born on July 27, 1931, to Argel Leopard and Hassie Barksdale Leopard.
Mrs. Murphy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She devoted her life to her family and will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the love she shared with those around her. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family and tending to her garden, two passions that brought her great joy throughout her life.
She is survived by her children, Michael Lindsay Murphy and Jennifer Murphy Smith; grandchildren, Christa Lindsay Fleming (Jim), Leslie Sheryll Murphy, and Adriane Marie Rios (Gabe); great-grandchildren, Reeves Nelson Knox and Leona Elena Rios; and her sister, Janice Norton. She also leaves behind many other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.
Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her parents, Argel and Hassie Leopard; her beloved husband, Joe Randall Murphy; her sister, Joyce Leopard Gooch; and her brothers, Joe Larry Leopard and Roger Leopard.
A private family graveside service will be held at Athens City Cemetery with Brian Murphy officiating.
Pallbearers will be Mark Norton, Larry Leopard, Kurt Leopard, Billy Cannon, Elliot Murphy, and Johnny Hays.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Jeanette’s memory.
Though she will be deeply missed, Jeanette’s legacy of love, devotion, and generosity will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
