Sandra Skalnik Sandra Gale Skalnik, a lifelong resident of the Sumiton-Dora area, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026 surrounded by the comforting presence of her family.
Born on January 11, 1951, she was a proud 1969 graduate of Dora High School. She was a member of East Walker Church of Christ.
Mrs. Skalnik was born to the late Willie J. and Ruby Jo Poore. She was also preceded in death by her siblings J.W. Poore, Sharla Gossett, and Johnnie Sue Burton.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John C. Skalnik, sons John Allen (Shondra) and Grant, grandchildren Hadley Skalnik Graves (Charley), Kaysen Skalnik Parker (Taylor), Eli Skalnik, and Ethan Skalnik, great grandchild Briggs Parker, and sister Kim Davis, as well as a host of nieces and nephews who she loved as her own.
Sandra served as a vice president for a mortgage company for many years, but her greatest calling was her family. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family. Her love was shown by compassion, great generosity, and fierce protection. Her absence will always be felt deeply, and her family’s love for her will never diminish.
Funeral services will be Tuesday Aug. 4, 26 at 2:00 pm in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Minister Lonnie Ingram will officiate. Burial will follow in New Horizon Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 pm.
