Brent Allen Boyer was born on November 29, 1963, in Hartselle, Alabama, to Sarah and Brent Boyer. If there was ever a man born with boots on, it was Allen. From the time he was a little boy, he could be found riding ponies down the road, and it didn’t take long for everyone to realize that being a cowboy wasn’t just something he did- it was who he was.
Allen never met a pair of boots he didn’t like or a day that didn’t call for cowboy attire. Farming wasn’t just his livelihood; it was his way of life. Over the years, he raised horses, cattle, sheep, and just about any animal that needed someone stubborn enough to care for it.
When he wasn’t tending to livestock, Allen worked as a horse farrier and competed with cutting horses at rodeos. He had a gift with horses that few people possess and a work ethic that never quit.
And stubborn? Allen had that mastered. If you knew him, you know he never sugarcoated a thing. You always knew exactly where you stood because Allen never minced words- and he wasn’t about to start.
Allen also believed no gathering was complete without feeding everyone. His cooking became legendary, and nobody ever left his table hungry. After a long day at the farm, you could usually find him enjoying an ice-cold Busch Light and a cigarette while admiring the work he’d put in.
Those who loved Allen often joked that he had nine lives. Between accidents, close calls, and near-death experiences, it seemed like the Good Lord kept sending him back because He wasn’t quite ready for Allen just yet.
There were only two things Allen loved more than farming: his animals and his beloved wife, Teresa, whom he affectionately called “Cricket.” If you saw Allen, chances are Cricket wasn’t far away- and neither were the two pistols he almost always carried. He also loved settling into a good Western novel, where the heroes dressed a lot like he did.
We imagine Heaven got a little bit louder when Allen arrived. St. Peter probably heard, “Where’s the barn?” before Allen even made it through the gate. And waiting for him at those pearly gates was his favorite horse Remedy, because if there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s that Heaven’s horses are about to be well cared for.
He was one of a kind, and there will never be another quite like Allen Boyer.
Allen leaves behind the love of his life, Teresa “Cricket” Boyer; his stepchildren, Heather Bolding (Daryl), Leah Ferguson (Ben), and Daniel Necaise (Kelby); and his cherished grandchildren, Dean, Zane “Buddy,” Kate, and Kallan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make memorials to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
