Virginia "Gen" Ann Prestage Scott Virginia Ann “Gen” Prestage Scott, 78, passed away on July 13, 2026. She was born on March 15, 1948 in Russellville AL, but was raised in Red Bay, AL.

Gen was a graduate of Red Bay High School, where she was a cheerleader, and her high school sweetheart Joe was a football player. After Joe’s return from Vietnam, they married and spent many years traveling across the country while he worked with the 798 pipeline.

They welcomed a son, Joseph, in 1969, and eventually, they returned home to North Alabama where Joe began working in the Space industry, leading them to living in Huntsville, Scottsboro, and Athens.

Gen was a woman of many talents and pursued a variety of careers throughout her life. She worked as a switchboard operator at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, managed a real estate office in Scottsboro, and later managed Merle Norman Cosmetics in Athens. Her passion and eye for beauty ultimately led her to establish a successful interior design business, from which she retired in 2018 after many successful years.

However, above all, Gen’s greatest joy was being “Mimi” to her beloved grandson, Jackson. From the moment he was born, they shared a special bond that he will miss greatly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ila and Ed Prestage of Red Bay, Alabama, and is survived by her husband, Joe Scott; her son, Joseph Scott and wife Carissa, her cherished grandson, Jackson; her sisters, Barbara Kay and Berldeen Orrick, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Visitation will be held at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home in Athens, AL Friday, July 17, 10am-11am, with a memorial service immediately following.
