Photo of James RyanJames Richard Ryan III passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at his residence. He was born on December 20, 1957, to his parents, James and Lorraine Ermer Ryan. James was a man of unwavering strength, deep compassion, and remarkable intelligence. Those who knew him will remember his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and steadfast loyalty to the people he loved. He had a unique ability to make others laugh, offer wise advice, and provide comfort and protection whenever it was needed. Whether through a kind word, a thoughtful conversation, or simply his reassuring presence, James made a lasting impact on the lives of those around him. A gifted writer with a creative mind, James proudly earned the title of author, sharing his thoughts and imagination through his work. He also dedicated part of his life to public service as a police officer in Chicago, where he served with honor and earned numerous commendations, including recognition as a marksman. His commitment to serving and protecting others reflected the values he carried throughout his life. Later, James discovered a new calling in education as a teacher at Belgreen School. He genuinely enjoyed working with his students, encouraging them to learn, think critically, and believe in themselves. His patience, wisdom, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on many young lives. Above all else, James cherished his family. They were the center of his world, and he devoted his life to loving, supporting, and protecting them. He was the kind of husband, father, and family member who could always be counted on—a source of strength during difficult times and a steady presence through every season of life. His love was constant, his guidance unwavering, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created, the lessons he taught, and the love he shared will remain with his family forever. He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Ryan; his son, James (Elyssa) Ryan IV; his father-in-law, William Farmer; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
