Daniel R Bowers 1932-2026
Daniel R. Bowers died peacefully at home after a brief illness on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the age of 94. He was grateful to have lived a long life and considered each day a gift. Though we mourn his passing, he was ready to join Evelyn, his beloved wife of 73 years, who preceded him in death by 2 years.
Dan was friendly and outgoing, and witty. He loved being a husband, father, and grandfather, who was called GrandDan by his grandchildren. Dan was thrilled to become a great-grandfather in 2024. He was a lifelong Christian, who was baptized at Blooming Grove Baptist Church in Woodlawn, Tennessee. He was a member of North Wood United Methodist Church for almost 63 years. After his retirement from Anderson News Company, he volunteered with Meals-On-Wheels, enjoyed reading, travelling with Evelyn, playing with his grandchildren, and participating in the Yoga in Chair classes at the YMCA.
Dan is survived by his children James Bowers, Martha Bowers (Greg Jones), Mary Bowers, Dan Bowers (Alice) and Lydia Hopkins (Stan). His Grandchildren, Jackie Bowers (Layla), Elizabeth Jones (Shaci Clack), Hannah Hopkins (Cody Klein), Emily Bowers, Joe Bowers, and his great granddaughter, Marlowe Klein. His sister, Rachel (Johnnie) Hudson, sister-in-law Wilma Bowers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dan is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Howard Bowers. His parents Gip Thomason and Willie Mae Crotzer Bowers. His siblings Eva Jones, Eddie Terrell, Willis Bowers, John Bowers, Sarah Bowers, Mary Emma Jones, Paul Bowers, David Bowers, Phillip Bowers, and Robert Bowers.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 1 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. His service will begin at 2 p.m. with Reverend Wayne Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Greenview Memorial Park.
