Logo Icon It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Gaynell Witchen, who went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus, on July 7, 2026, at the age of 92.

Gay was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ted J. Witchen, and her sister, Mary Mitchell. She is survived by her three children: Pam Zachary (Richard), Patricia Witchen of Knoxville, TN, and Paula Witchen of Olive Branch, MS; three grandchildren: Jason Zachary (Holly), Justin Zachary (Claire), and Jordan Kuban (Rob); and six great-grandchildren, all of Knoxville, TN. She also leaves behind her sister, Shirley Flint (Lee Wayne) of Lucedale, MS, and several nieces and nephews.

Gay loved Jesus, her family, singing in the choir, and playing basketball and softball. She touched many lives throughout her years teaching Sunday school and kindergarten at Trinity Baptist Church in Memphis. During her college years at East Mississippi Junior College in Scooba, MS, she played on the undefeated Lady Lions basketball team and was honored with the Babe Ruth Foundation Sportsmanship Award.

There will be a graveside service in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Samaritan’s Purse.

Ripley Funeral Home invites you to share memories with the Witchen family.
