Jo Anne Templeton Oswalt passed peacefully at Decatur Morgan Hospital on July 6th, 2026. She was born just outside of Memphis in 1955, but her heart was always a resident of Hartselle, her beloved hometown and place of residence. Her visitation will be held at 1:30 PM with a service to follow at 3:00 PM at Peck’s Funeral Home in Hartselle, AL on Saturday, July 11th.
Jo Anne was many things to many people. However, three things stood out to anyone who had the honor of meeting her: Being a doting and faithful wife to Johnnie ‘Oz’ Oswalt for 47 wonderful years, the loving mother to the apples of her eye in Jonathon and Janie, and maybe most proudly serving as ‘JoJo’ to her three beautiful grandchildren: Blakely, Abigail and Eloise.
Jo Anne loved her people and her work. Once she met them, they had met their fiercest advocate and a friend for life. For over three decades she could be found styling hair, telling stories and enjoying the lives of her beloved clients…who were all family in their own rights.
Jo Anne is survived by her husband Johnnie ‘Oz’ Oswalt, her son Jonathon (Tizzy) Oswalt, her daughter Janie (Chris) Spiker, her three perfect (her words) grandchildren, her brothers Wesley (Linda) and Jerry Templeton, sister-in-law Marque Anne Templeton…and enumerable family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Leo, mother Martha, brother Steve, sister-in-law Elaine and so very many friends and family…and that reunion will be a sight to behold.
In lieu of flowers, she’d love if you’d water yours…while enjoying your favorite song. She’d ask you to overtip your hair stylist and tell them JoJo sent you. She’d ask you to find your way down to her happy place on the gulf coast and read that book. Most of all, she’d ask that you hug your people.
