MONTGOMERY - Data collected and analyzed by the Alabama Department of Workforce’s Labor Market Information (LMI) Division shows that in April 2026, there were 120,373 job ads posted in Alabama. This is a 23.8% increase over the year from May 2025.
The five occupations with the most online job ads are for Registered Nurses, Customer Service Representatives, Retail Salespersons, General and Operations Managers and Fast Food and Counter Workers with 10,512 ads placed for those occupations in May.
In May 2026, the median advertised wage was $56,160 per year. There were 0.49 candidates for every one job opening in May 2026.
“May’s job posting data highlights the steady strength of Alabama’s labor market, with more than 120,000 online job ads reflecting sustained demand for workers across healthcare, retail, hospitality, and management occupations,” said Workforce Secretary Greg Reed. “As summer hiring continues, employers across Alabama remain focused on filling critical positions and attracting qualified talent. The consistency in job posting activity, coupled with rising wages and a competitive hiring environment, underscores the resilience of our economy and the broad range of career opportunities available to Alabamians. These trends reinforce the value of workforce development initiatives that help connect job seekers with rewarding, in-demand careers throughout our state,” Reed continued.

The top two employers posting the most online ads in May 2026 were Huntsville Hospital with 1,503 ads and Walmart Inc. with 1,089 ads. The rest of the top 10 were: UAB Health System (877), McDonald’s (794), The University of Alabama At Birmingham (671), Tacala, LLC (588), Baptist Health (476), CVS Health (430) O’Reilly Auto Parts (381) and DCH Health System with 373 online job ads listed.
