Billy Jay Cain, of Guntersville, Alabama, passed away peacefully June 20, 2026.
Born on April 29, 1943, Bill lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his community,
and his country. He proudly served in the United States Army from January 29, 1962, until
his honorable discharge on January 28, 1965. During his military service, he attained the
rank of Specialist Four (E-4) and served with distinction at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville,
Alabama. As a member of the Army Band, Bill shared his musical talents while faithfully
serving his nation during a significant period in American history.
Bill graduated from Samford University in 1974 with a degree in Music. He used his gift of
music to lead youth and adult choirs in Gadsden and Guntersville. His love for the Lord was
best expressed through many musicals and cantatas through the years.
He was known for his strong character, quiet strength, and commitment to those he loved.
He was a man who valued hard work, integrity, and service to others. Throughout his life, he
touched the lives of many through his kindness, friendship, and willingness to help those
around him.
Bill will be remembered not only for his military service but also for the love he shared with
his family, friends and the Lord. His legacy of dedication, patriotism, and compassion will
continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Bill was preceded in death by loved ones who welcomed him home. He is survived by his
wife Nan, daughters Nikki Mitchell (Todd) and Wendy Walker (Allen), grandchildren Cain
Mitchell (Gwyn), John Mitchell, Megan Walker and Jake Walker, nephew Charles Cowen
(Denise) and niece Deborah Taylor (Matt).
The family extends its sincere gratitude to all who have offered prayers, support, and
expressions of sympathy during this difficult time.
Bill’s life was one of service, honor, and devotion. He will be deeply missed and fondly
remembered.
