Wesley Whitworth Jr. of Athens, Alabama, gained his angel wings on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the age of 71.
Wesley was born on October 16, 1954, in Limestone County, Alabama, to the late Wesley Whitworth Sr. and Valeria Phillips Whitworth. He graduated from Clements High School in 1973 and went on to marry his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, and best friend, Angela Smith Whitworth. They were married nearly 52 years, celebrating a lifetime of love and devotion together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Sabra Jo McMahan, Kandyce Vansickle and Kaye Simpson; and one brother, Alfred Whitworth.
Wesley is survived by his loving wife, Angela Smith Whitworth; daughter, Leslie Ivy (husband Jonathan); son, Joshua Whitworth (wife Kaylee); three grandchildren, Kadence Ford (husband Blaine), Peyton Weeks (husband Addison), and Paislee Ivy; two great-grandchildren, Stetson Ford and Baker Weeks.
He is also survived by two sisters, Patricia Newton and Shelia Blakely; one brother, Ronald Whitworth (wife Becky); and several nieces and nephews all of whom he loved dearly.
Wesley was a devout Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a man of strong faith, deep convictions, and unwavering love for his family. He found joy in the simple things in life.
A retired superintendent, Wesley took great pride in his work and was known as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest accomplishment was the life and family he built. He made it his mission to provide his family with the best life possible and loved them with his whole heart.
Wesley was truly one of a kind. His kindness, wisdom, humor, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith and love will continue through the generations he leaves behind.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Freedom Pentecostals of Tanner, located at 11787 McMeans Boulevard, in Tanner, Alabama.
