Jean Millsaps Berry passed away peacefully on June 6 at the age of 98. She was born on March 14, 1928, to Essie and Arthur Millsaps. Her parents operated the only store in the Maysville, Alabama, area when she was growing up.
She graduated from Madison County High School and received her BA in Education from Athens State Teacher’s College (now Athens State University). She taught school, primarily first grade, for almost forty years, at Riverton and Chapman.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynne Berry; niece, Susan King (Austin); and grandnephew, Travis King (Candace). She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Berry; her parents; and her siblings, Arthur Millsaps, Jr., Gerald Millsaps, and Ophelia Millsaps Fulton.
A private graveside service will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery. Contributions in Jean’s honor may be made to the Memory and Mobility Fund at HudsonAlpha, 601 Genome Way, Huntsville, Alabama 35806, or a favorite charity.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Fleming Farms, especially those who work in Lilac Trace (memory care) and to the many friends who provided care and support.
