Mr. James Howard Stewart, age 83, of the Morgan City community, passed away early Sunday morning, June 7, 2026 at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice in Albertville, AL. Born March 15, 1943 in Marshall County, AL, James was the son of Glenn Stewart and Edna Irene Swords Stewart. James retired from Cooks Pest Control where he served as a supervisor. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church #2 where he served as a church deacon.
Family members James leaves behind to cherish memories include his wife, Etta Fay Couch Stewart; children, Cynthia “Cindy” Kennedy (Andy) and Keith Stewart; step-children, DeEtta Couch Shives (Steve) and Doug Couch (Amanda); sister, Peggy Glass; brothers, Charles “Bo” Stewart (Carrie), Larry Stewart (Penny), Tommy Stewart (Nancy); grandchildren, Zachary Stewart, Bethany Kennedy Mitchell, David Stewart, Leah Kennedy Van Beusekon, Allison Kennedy, James Kennedy, Anna Couch Green, Allie Couch Graham, and Case Couch; and eight great grandchildren.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Edna Stewart; first wife and mother of his children, Ann Padgett Stewart; brothers, W.O. Stewart and Rickey Stewart; sisters, Jean Stewart and Linda Chambers.
Services for James will be at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel in Arab, Alabama. The family will receive friends and guests for visitation on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 2:00pm. Officiating services will be Pastor Andy Kennedy and Pastor Bryan Mosley. Serving as pallbearers and escorting James to his final resting place in Union Grove First Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Grove, AL will be James Kennedy, Zachary Stewart, Stephen Glass, Chase Smith, David Stewart and Case Couch.
