Jon Thomas Gant Sr., age 87 of Dora, Alabama passed away on May 29 th surrounded by his
loved ones.
He was born on January 3, 1939, in Oakman, Alabama to Glenn and Geraldine Gant. On
October 24, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, Patsy. Together they shared 52
wonderful years. Jon Tom went on to work in Birmingham as a banker. He also served in the
Army National Guard for some time.
Jon Tom was known most for his devotion to his family. He wore the title of “dad” and “Poppa”
so proudly. Everyone that knew him, knew how proud he was of his children and his
grandchildren. They were his whole world.
Anyone that knew Jon Tom, knew his love for the Dora and Sumiton communities. He served on
the board for the Sumiton Housing authority for many years. He was a lifelong member of Dora
First Baptist Church. Jon Tom was a devoted Dora Bulldog fan. He always wore a bulldog t shirt
and a hat proudly. Jon Tom was always giving back to the communities that built him. He left an
impact on all those that knew him.
Jon Tom found great joy in supporting his grandchildren, gardening, telling jokes, and as he
would say “watching the cars go by.” He would always laugh at his own jokes. He will always be
remembered for his generosity, humor, kindness, and faith.
Jon is survived by his children Jon (Lisa) Gant Jr., and Leslie (Jeff) Cooper; grandchildren Sarah
Neill, Katy (Dillon) Terry, and Blaine (Taylor) Neill; sister Suzanne Otis, and many beloved nieces
and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years – Patsy, his mother Geraldine, his
father Glenn, and his brother Robert “Bob”.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2026 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at New Horizon
Memorial Gardens. A service and burial will immediately follow.
Jon Tom’s family would like to thank everyone for their love and prayers during this difficult
time. He will forever be in our hearts.
