Tommy Young Profile Photo A Celebration of Life Service with military honors for Tommy Young, 88 of Counce, TN will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 21, 2026, with visitation scheduled from 12 pm till service time at Magnolia Funeral Home – East. Bro. Roy Bennett will officiate the service with Ricky Young providing the eulogy. Pallbearers include Noah Martin, Mike Billingsley, Mark Pickard, Ronnie Martindale, Jeff Lipford, and Buddy Poindexter. Tommy was born February 6, 1938, in Finger, TN and he passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026, at his residence. Tommy graduated from high school in Bethel Springs and continued his education at University of Memphis, formerly known as Memphis State University. Tommy proudly served in the U.S. Army while stationed in South Korea. He was employed for 44 years with Great Dane Trailers in Memphis, including 30 years as plant supervisor. A gifted and prolific songwriter, Tommy earned recognition and awards for his musical talents and contributions to songwriting. He once played guitar with the late great Carl Perkins and was considering a career in music. His parents convinced him to do something to pay the bills, so he became an engineer. Tommy was also active in charitable and community efforts, including involvement with the Tennessee River Run alongside Darryl Worley, supporting causes that benefited children and families throughout the region. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 35 years, Annice Young; his grandson, Thomas “Trey” Richard Young III (Carmin); his sisters, Dorothy Mae Amerson (Kenneth) and Marylon Elaine Brock (Joe); niece, Mikia Poindexter; nephew, Jay Poindexter; a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas “Tim” Richard Young, Jr; his parents, James Cornelius Young and Nina Inez Nash Young; his brother, Jimmy Neal Young; and his sisters, Mary Lou Young, Ruby Fay Young, JoAnn Blanton, and Betty Catherine Smith. Magnolia Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Tommy Young.
