Jo Ann Glass Richeson
November 11, 1929 – May 13, 2026
Jo Ann Glass Richeson joined the Lord on May 13th, 2026, passing peacefully at her home in Redstone Village after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born on November 11, 1929, in Waco, Alabama, and attended Russellville High School.
She began her nursing education in Memphis, Tennessee, and married her childhood
sweetheart, John Richeson, on April 19, 1952. As an Air Force wife, Ann devoted herself to their home and lovingly raised their three daughters while John served in Korea and Vietnam. Throughout John’s more than 27 years of military service, the family lived in Washington State, England, Germany, Nevada, Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. Wherever they lived, Ann made each place a home. She and John retired to Cherry Hill, Alabama, in 1975.
Ann was an active member of Cherry Hill Baptist Church and will be remembered for her joy in creating floral arrangements for the altar and for her faithful participation in Bible School, dinner on the grounds, and preparing the cemetery for Decoration Day each May. Her interests included the Rural Acres of Waco Garden Club, gardening, floral arranging, travel, baking, square dancing, and reading to her grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by John, her husband of 59 years, three brothers, William, James, and Davis, and four sisters, Suzy, Velma, Mabel, and Betty.
She is survived by her daughters, Debra Donovan (Vic), Susan Newman (Scott), and Mary Jones (Edwin); six grandchildren, Katie, John, Will, Lucy, Andy, and Thomas; 13 great-grandchildren, Emma, Nolan, Caroline, Charlotte, Abbie, Sally, Juliette, Jack, Tommy, Walter, Elliott, Saoirse, and Lucas; her sister, Frances; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on May 26 at Cherry Hill Baptist Church in Cherry Hill, Alabama, followed by the funeral service officiated by Brother Jason Thorn. Burial will follow in the adjoining Cherry Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her four grandsons—Andy Jones, John Donovan, Will Donovan, and Thomas Newman—and David Tufts and Nate Hicks, the spouses of her granddaughters.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Redstone Village for their love and care of our mom since 2014, especially the second-floor Skilled Nursing staff, and most recently, the nurses of Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Cherry Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund (c/o Ronnie Bobo, 4925 Highway 83, Russellville, AL 35654), the Cherry Hill Baptist Church Fund (c/o Carol Glass, 2603 Hwy 244, Russellville, AL 35654), or the Decatur chapter of the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home (PO Box 1805, Decatur, AL 35602).
