Born on October 19, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee, Joseph was the son of the late Hubert J. Crum and Eula Mae Barbour (nee Waldon).  He received his education from Lake Taylor High School in Norfolk,Virginia before furthering his studies at Antelope Valley College in California, where he earned an Associate Degree in Computer Science. A highly intelligent and dedicated worker, Joseph devoted his career to the ever-changing world of technology, serving for many years in roles including Technology Consultant and Sr. Systems Analyst with companies such as Hewlett Packard, Disney and Unisys until his retirement.  His career intertwined with the Aerospace industry, including the Columbia Space Shuttle and other programs.

A man of simple pleasures and strong convictions, Joseph found much fulfillment through fellowship and service to others. He was a proud and devoted member of Orlando Masonic Lodge #69 and was actively involved with the Shriners, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Eastern Star, and the Emblem Club. Through these organizations, he built lifelong friendships and touched countless lives with his loyalty, generosity, and steady presence.

Outside of his professional career and civic involvement, Joseph found joy in the freedom of the open road. He loved riding motorcycles and was affiliated with several biking clubs throughout the years, where he formed many treasured friendships and memories. Whether among fellow riders, Masonic brothers, or family gathered together, Joseph was someone whose presence brought comfort, conversation, and companionship.  Joseph appreciated the arts, music, and live concerts.  He treasured friendships made in the music industry and especially enjoyed American Southern rock.  Although a Florida resident, Joseph had a deep love and connection to his Mississippi roots and family.

Though his passing was unexpected, the memories he leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His friendship, laughter, and caring nature will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for years to come.

Those left to cherish his precious memory include his siblings, Bobbie Sue Thompson, Ruth Lehnhoff, Elaine Barbour and Robert Barbour; along with many beloved nieces and nephews and numerous cousins throughout the Waldon and Crum families, all of whom he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his beloved brother, William J. Barbour, III.

Ripley Funeral Home invites you to share memories with Joseph’s family.
