MONTGOMERY-As of 4:30 PM on Thursday, March 26 the number of COVID-19 cases has almost doubled in Alabama. The number of confirmed cases has risen to 531 with a total of 4,082 people in the state tested. According to ADPH one death has been confirmed by them related to COVID-19.
During a press conference on Thursday Governor Kay Ivey along with the State Superintendent of Education Dr. Eric Mackey and State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris announced the number of cases for COVID-19. The governor also announced Alabama public school students won’t return to classrooms this school year. She instructed each of the state’s public K-12 schools to implement a plan to complete the 2019-2020 school year using “alternate methods of instruction.”
Dr Harris said the Alabama Department of Public Heath is continuing their preparation for a surge in hospital admissions. He also addressed how the state counts COVID-19 related deaths, saying it takes some time to review a patient’s medical records and speak with the patient’s healthcare providers in order to determine the exact cause of death.
