MONTGOMERY-In November 2013, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) achieved the goal of 1,000 commitments for its new “Freshwater Fishing” distinctive license plate. The commitment requirement is set by the Alabama Department of Revenue to ensure that a distinctive license plate has adequate support before it is produced.
Originally, ADCNR offered to pay or reimburse the $50 “Commitment to Purchase” application fee for the first 1,000 applicants. However, this offer is now being extended to include any applicant who completes a “Commitment to Purchase” application or “Power of Attorney” form and sends their associated paperwork to the ADCNR Fisheries Section office in Montgomery before January 17, 2014.
If paperwork is received by this deadline, the commitment fee will either be reimbursed or paid by the Alabama Conservation and Natural Resources Foundation depending on the method of commitment.

The “Freshwater Fishing” distinctive license plate is not yet available at county probate offices, but should become available by mid-2014. Proceeds from the sale of the license plate will support habitat enhancement, aquatic wildlife species protection and restoration, aquatic education, bass genetic research, sport fish disease research and sport fish stockings.
