Patsy Thomas Newman, 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday Feb. 28, 2016. Death was due to complications from Alzheimer’s. She had been a resident at Shangri-La Assisted Living in Ellicott City, Maryland for four years. She was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the parents of Carless C. and Marie H. Thomas. As a young child the family moved to Florence, Alabama where her father taught accounting classes at UNA and later worked at and retired from the Ford Motor Company plant in Sheffield, Alabama. Her mother was a homemaker. Patsy and her family were members of Highland Baptist Church. Patsy worked as a children’s dental assistant for James Freeman, DDS, and moved from the Florence area with her husband on a job transfer for him in 1985. They lived in Greenwood, Mississippi and Charleston, West Virginia before settling in Ellicott City, Maryland near Baltimore in 1988. Patsy is survived by her husband, Gene Newman, and sisters, Shirley (James) McDowell, of Florence, and Peggy (Ray) Chestnut, of Weiner, Arkansas. Her parents, Carless and Marie Thomas, and brother, Sammy Thomas preceded her in death. She is also survived by a niece, Martha Holliday, and nephew, Adam Thomas. A private cremation ceremony was completed by Harry H. Witzke’s Family Funeral Home, Inc. in Ellicott City, Maryland.
