IMG_5009 copyFLORENCE – It happened at all 300 stores simultaneously… A birthday party of sorts… Belk, a Southern tradition, turned 120 years old today, and all the retail locations in 16 states had a birthday party. Belk has had a long tradition in The Shoals. They opened their first store in Sheffield as Belk-Hudson (as it was known in those days) in 1946 and have been in The Shoals ever since. The Sheffield location closed in the 70’s. Belk-Hudson was in Muscle Shoals for a while, and after acquiring Parisian’s Department Stores, moved to Regency Square Mall in Florence, as Belk, where they have enjoyed years of retail bliss.

It was a terrific party! Store Manager Susan Beer,(Quad-Cities Daily friend) Liz Mullendorf and the entire staff succeeded in creating a wonderful breakfast event for the invited guests. Wonderful food from Chef Lewis Yuille of U.N.A. Culinary Center was served to the guests. Music was provided inside by the Muscle Shoals Middle School ; and outside some great tunes from Mars Hill Bible School musicians. It was a lot of fun!

The Quad-Cities Daily was on hand to memorialize the Florence event in photographs, and we present them here. These images are nice and big, so you can make a copy on your printer to keep! Just remember, they are for your personal, NON-COMMERCIAL USE ONLY. Thanks!
