MONTGOMERY– Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded an $85,000 grant to help combat the distribution and use of illegal drugs throughout the state.
The grant will help the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board continue its Enforcement Statewide Drug Task Force, which helps law enforcement agencies across the state conduct drug investigations.
“The use and sale of illegal drugs destroys families and damages communities,” Bentley said. “The ABC drug unit provides valuable support to the law enforcement officers who are working to keep our neighborhoods safe.”
The task force participates in more than 1,000 drug investigations and undercover operations each year and helps understaffed police departments in small towns to carry out extensive drug investigations.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, economic development, infrastructure upgrades, recreation, energy conservation, water resource management, job training and career development.
Bentley informed Mac Gipson, ABC administrator, that the grant had been approved.
