Douglas Wayne Hester, 79, Tuscumbia, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Visitation will be Friday, July 1, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Greg Beasley officiating. Interment will be in Piney Grove Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Wayne was a native and lifelong resident of Tuscumbia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Bertha Hester; wife of twenty-seven years, Geneva Hester; stepdaughter, Susan Smith, and twin great-grandsons; and brothers, Lawrence, Nelson, and Ray Hester.
Wayne is survived by his children, Sarah Adams (Randell), Doug Hester, and Vickie Hopson (Scotty); stepchildren, Phillip McDougal (Glinda), Virginia Thorpe (Conrad), Mary Spires, Charles Spires, Sabrina Thrasher (Mark), and Kevin Patterson (Amy); nineteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jean Caperton and Lucille Brittnell.
Pallbearers will be Danny Caperton, Joshua Adams, Will Stults, Dalton Stults, Eric Hester, and Austin Hester.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Fourth Floor Nurses and Staff at Helen Keller Hospital for the love and care shown to Mr. Hester and his family. They would also like to thank Dr. Randy Pounders; and Southern Care Hospice, especially Rachel Berry.
