Former candidate Tim James eyes possible challenge to Ivey

MONTGOMERY – Today, businessman and former gubernatorial candidate Tim James held a press conference in front of the State Capitol to call on state leaders to protect Alabama’s public school children from three dangerous forms of secular indoctrination.

The three things that he mentioned specifically were critical race theory, transgenderism, and eastern mysticism.  The eastern mysticism he associated with the recent reversal of an Alabama policy to forbid the teaching of yoga in public schools.

James framed his speech within the context of a grandfather’s heart who is concerned about the directional shift in Alabama education.

Important excerpts of the speech are as follows:

“It is the responsibility of leaders of this state to do everything in their power to protect children in schools.  There are three dangerous doctrines infecting our culture, and their influence is spilling over into our schools.”

“The three doctrines are like a beast with three heads, and all three taken together are an unprecedented assault on our children.”

“The first head of the beast is critical race theory.  It promotes the demoralization of children with different skin colors.  The essence of CRT is division and views society as categories of oppressors and oppressed.  The classroom is a primary arena chosen to undermine American by planting seeds of hatred based on this terrible doctrine.  We believe that all people and all races are created equal in the eyes of God.  We must resist CRT when we see it in any form.”

“The second head of the beast is transgenderism.  Many try to convince us that transgenderism is the next step in equality and want you to believe it is a civil rights struggle.  Nonsense.  This is a doctrine that conflicts with and is in opposition to the nature and character of God.”

“There are inherent dangers with members of the opposite sex being in bathrooms.  Permanent damage can occur with hormone therapy.  Girls’ sports are being decimated.  Schools are where the transgender subculture has established a beachhead for indoctrination, and it must stop.”

“God created every child in His image.  A boy is a boy, and a girl is a girl.  There is no other.  There’s pressure from the federal government to codify transgenderism into Title IX, the federal civil rights law.  We must reject this.”

“The third head of the beast is the recent reversal by Alabama to permit yoga to be taught in our schools.  Yoga is a spiritual discipline rooted in Hindu philosophy.”

“Many well-meaning families practice yoga, but there is hidden symbolism in the exercise regimen that may permit teachers with an agenda to influence our children with eastern mysticism.”

“The permission slip for parents to sign states: ‘I am informed that my child will participate in yoga instruction at the school named above.  I understand that yoga is part of the Hindu religion.  I give my child permission to participate in yoga instruction in school.’”

“I don’t remember needing permission for jumping jacks or toe touches.  Think about it.  They took prayer out of schools, and now we have this trojan horse called yoga.”

“The legislature made a mess, and now they need to clean it up by reinstating the ban on yoga.”

James concluded his speech with a call for bold vision by our state’s leadership and bold action by the people and parents of Alabama:

“We are standing here on hallowed ground, at the front door of our Capitol. This is the Gateway to our government.  It’s at this gate that we must make our stand.”

“The culture will mock, but the victory will be worth the fight when we see the atmosphere in our schools and across the land shifting back to the Judeo-Christian foundation on which this nation was constructed.”

“As a grandfather, I’m asking everyone to put on their armor and charge unapologetically forward letting your voice be heard in the chamber of this capitol and in the school boards of your community.”

Tim James is an American businessman from Alabama. The son of former Alabama Governor Fob James, he sought and lost the Republican Party nomination for Governor of Alabama twice, finishing third in the Republican primaries in both 2002 and 2010.
