Ann T. Nash, 80, passed from this life Friday, September 10, 2021, at her home in Athens.
Born April 19, 1941, in Limestone County. Jessie Ann Turner was the seventh of 12 surviving children born to Lee Patterson Turner and Fleecie Poff Turner. Their first child, a daughter, was stillborn. She spent her childhood years picking cotton alongside her siblings, tattling on her older brothers for their relentless, but good-natured teasing and playing little-mommy to her younger siblings.
A 1959 graduate of Clements High School, Ann married John David “Johnny”Nash November 20, 1960. The young couple remained in Limestone County for several years before moving to various locales in North Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee where they always worked in the apparel manufacturing industry-she as a secretary, he as a sewing machine mechanic. In 1976, they brought their family, which by now included two daughters and a nephew they were raising, back to Limestone County, where they bought a home and settled in the Coxey Community. For the next 12 years or more, the couple worked at Horizon Sportswear in Elkmont. In what little spare time they had, they enjoyed fishing, gardening and frequent gatherings with family and friends.
At the time of her death, she was a member of Barea Baptist Church, having moved her membership there after Poplar Creek Baptist on Snake Road was dissolved in 2013. She had served as church secretary at Poplar Creek for many years and Johnny had served as a deacon there until his death in 2011.
Several years after her husband passed, she sold the family home and downsized to an apartment in the Montclair Senior Living Community, where she made many new friends through a windows’ prayer group, weekly game night and other community activities. She established fast friendships with her three closest neighbors, Littia Wolfe, Mardra Connor and Chris Medckia, who were indispensable in helping care for her over the last few months of her life.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Fleecie Turner; her husband, Johnny Nash; siblings, Lee Turner Jr., Clara Ellen Turner, Marvin Turner, Betty Kay Turner, Fannie Mae Turner and Jackie Burl Turner.
She is survived by two daughters, Pam Clark and Tanjie Nash, both of Athens; two grandsons, Jonathon Clark of Elkmont and Nash Schrimsher of Athens; two step-granddaughters, Brandi Goodman and April Payne; one great-grandson, Alexander Dewayne Clark; five brothers, Bootie Turner, Baba Turner, Billy Turner and James Turner, all of Athens; and Willie Turner of Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A graveside service will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 19 at Dement Cemetery with Bill Graham officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Jonathon Clark, Nash Schrimsher, Brian Schrimsher, Andy Creasey, Tony Morris, Don Turner and Micah Nash. Honorary pallbearer is Alex Clark.
