Janet Machtolff Darcy, 94, Sheffield, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. A private graveside service will be held for the family, with Morrison Funeral Home assisting.

Janet was joyful, intelligent, beautiful and kind. She was the wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend whose love and fearless strength knew no bounds. She loved her “girls’ night out,” dancing, travel, and especially – in her words – “grandmothering.” She retired as personnel officer from TVA after 26 years. After retirement, she conducted TVA’s Water Safety Program through the Bicentennial Volunteers. She served on the Board of Riverbend Center for Mental Health for 34 years, serving as Chair for two years. She also served on the TVA Credit Union Board of Directors for several years. Among many other volunteer activities, she served as president of the Arlithom Study Club, TVA Women’s Club, TVA Retiree Association, and as a member of the first Parish Council in Our Lady of the Shoals Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis N. “Mac” Machtolff; sisters, Margaret Joiner Robertson and Betty Joiner Davis; grandson, Mo Shaver and second husband, Richard Darcy.

Janet is survived by her sons, John Michael, Alan, and Paul Machtolff; daughters, Elizabeth Wise, Ann Rivard, and Pamela Shaver; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider contributions to Our Lady of the Shoals Church, 200 East Commons Street North, Tuscumbia, AL 35674; Sheffield Public Library, 316 N. Montgomery Avenue, Sheffield, AL 35660 or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be left for the family at morrisonfuneralhomes.com.
