George Winston Maxwell Jr George Winston Maxwell Jr, age 98 of Winchester, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Skilled Care. He was born in Jackson County, Alabama on March 23, 1922 to the late George Winston and Alta (Fanning) Maxwell Sr. Winston served his country in the United States Army in the 6th Army Headquarters and the 476th Anti Aircraft Battalion. A self-employed farmer, Winston enjoyed gardening and bee-keeping, and he had served as President of Farm Bureau and Franklin County Senior Citizens, as well as on the ASCS Board, Franklin County Commission, and Franklin Farmers CO-OP Board He was a devoted member of Winchester First United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Maxwell; son, Von Maxwell; brothers, Herbert Maxwell, Hugo Maxwell, and James Maxwell; and sisters, Ethel Travis, Elva Green, and Polly Waggoner. Winston is survived by his loving children, Gail (Dwight) Wagner of Belvidere, and Ronnie (Dianne) Maxwell of Belvidere; grandsons, Cary Wagner, Jamie Maxwell, Eric Maxwell, and Heath Lee Maxwell; and great-grandsons, Tristan Wagner, Preston Maxwell, Kingston Maxwell, Princeton Maxwell, and Keaton Maxwell. The register book and memorial cards will be available under the carport of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home from 11 am-12 pm on Saturday, March 28, 2020. An attendant will be available to assist you.
