Florence Police Charge Sheffield Man With Attempted Murder

FLORENCE-On Tuesday, March 3 the Florence Police Department issued a statement concerning the arrest of a suspect who has been charged with Attempted Murder and Discharging A Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle:

“On the evening of March 2, 2020 at approximately 10:00 P.M., a Florence Police officer was patrolling the downtown area and heard a single gunshot in the area of W. Dr. Hicks Blvd. and Pine St. Officers responded to the area and located a white male who had suffered a gunshot wound in the parking lot of 302 W. Dr. Hicks Blvd.

The victim was transported to North Alabama Medical Center and than transferred to UAB Hospital for treatment. While investigating the source of the gunfire, Mr. Casey Balentine, a 41 year old white male from Sheffield, Al, was also located near the scene. Detectives responded and began processing the crime scene and speaking with involved parties. It is believed that the males had been in an argument prior to the shot being fired.

Evidence obtained by detectives lead to charges against Mr. Balentine. Mr. Balentine was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle. He was transported without incident to the Lauderdale County Detention Center where he remains confined on bonds totaling $90,000.”

 

This case remains under investigation and additional information will be released when it is available.”
