Image result for scam health calls MONTGOMERY-The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) is warning residents to be on the alert for scam callers requesting personal medical information.

The scam involves a call from a person who says he or she is from the health department. The caller asks for verification of the recipient’s phone number and residence, then begins requesting personal medical information from the resident. Recently, a resident in Baldwin County notified the health department that they had received this type of call.

If anyone receives what they feel is a suspicious call from someone claiming to be from the health department, he or she should contact the state or local county health department for verification.

Residents should contact local law enforcement officials if they suspect a fraudulent purpose behind a phone contact or visit from someone claiming to be from the health department without proper identification.

County health departments throughout Alabama provide a wide range of confidential and professional services. Call 1-800-545-1098 or contact your local county health department for additional information.
