Mrs. Shirley Hellen Duez, age 74, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 10, after a lengthy illness. A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Duez will be on Friday, July 13, 2018, at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Roselawn Funeral Home. Mrs. Duez, a resident of Decatur, AL for many years, was born June 30, 1944 in Indianapolis, IN but grew up in Pana, IL. She received her accounting degree at the University of IL in Springfield, IL. She was a principal field examiner for the National Credit Union Association. After retirement and moving to Decatur, she and her husband loved traveling, especially on cruise ships. She was a talented artist, and an avid reader. Mrs. Duez was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy Ann Pottschmidt and her great-grandson, Xavier. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Robert Xavier Duez; her son, William Duez, two granddaughters: Jasmine Pittman and Raven Duez; 4 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Dorothy Boudell, Cindy Godzicki, and Patty Gustafson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation be made to The American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
