Lera Evelyn Patterson, age 88 of Cowan, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Athens, Alabama on May 25, 1930 to the late Lake C. and Ethel Bullington Bates. Before her retirement, Evelyn worked in the banking industry for over thirty years, beginning her career with the Bank of Cowan which later changed to Franklin County Bank and then Regions Bank. Evelyn cherished her family and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Cowan Church of Christ and enjoyed sharing the Bible and teaching verses to her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her brothers, Quinton Bates, Bryce Bates, and O’Neal Bates. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-eight years, James R. Patterson of Cowan; son, Danny (Kathy) Patterson of Winchester; daughter, Patricia (Bob) Boswell of Winchester; brother, Edsel Bates of Athens, Alabama; sisters, Tula Merle (James) Craig of Athens, Alabama, and Ethelene (Bobby) Ogles of Rogersville, Alabama; grandchildren, Dustin (Ashley) Patterson, Casey (Tracie) Boswell, Whitney (Fhilip) Franklin, and Jon (Michele) Boswell; and ten great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 12-2 pm Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Bro. Alan Adams officiating.
