Joseph Daniel “Dan” Parker – Obituary

Joseph Daniel “Dan” Parker, age 90, of Muscle Shoals, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at his residence.

Dan proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and worked for Ford Motor Company. He was a devoted Christian and a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. After retirement, Dan did not like being idle and was an avid gardener and loved growing vegetables. He was a happy man, always whistling, singing, and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, great father, and devoted grandfather. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

The visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2018 at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville. The funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Bro. Jerry Rea officiating. Burial will be at Knights of Pythias Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be family members.

He was preceded in death by son, Joseph D. Parker, Jr.; granddaughter, Julia Danielle Gusmus; parents, Travis Wilson & Ida Parker; brothers, Cliff Parker, Bill Parker, Nathaniel Parker, CB Parker, Travis Parker; and sisters, Louise Smith, Katherine Sparks, and Jean Futrell.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 65 years, Danny Kimbrough Parker; children, James Travis Parker (wife, Diane), Sally Parker Gusmus (husband, Randy); grandchildren, Christopher Alan Gusmus (wife, Meagan), Ashley Nicole Wei (husband, Shane); great-grandchildren, Aiden Gusmus, Kiley Christensen , Vivienne Christensen, and one on the way; brothers, Stanley Parker (wife, Betty), Carl Parker (wife, Kay); and a host of nieces & nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Jami, Brittany, and Stephanie of Southern Care Hospice for the wonderful care of our husband and father.
