Legendary Drummer Roger Clark passes away – Music community shocked and saddened by loss

MUSCLE SHOALS – Roger Clark, drummer on hundreds of hit records passed away this afternoon(Thursday, May 24, 2018)at his home on Wilson Lake. He would have turned 68 this July.

Clark, whose signature style was honed as a young 14-year-old, quickly earned a reputation as a skilled percussionist.

The Alabama Music Hall of Fame had this to say about Clark: A legendary Muscle Shoals and Nashville studio drummer, Clark earned over 30 Gold and Platinum records to his credit, lending his talent to artists such as Hank Williams, Jr., Amy Grant, Conway Twitty, The Osmonds, Mac Davis, Paul Anka, Tom Jones, Roy Orbison, Ronnie Milsap, The Temptations, Eddy Raven, Earl Thomas Conley, B.J. Thomas, Billy Joe Royal, The Muscle Shoals Horns, Travis Wammack, Nancy Sinatra, and countless others. Roger played on the first chart topping country single to come out of Muscle Shoals, Narvel Felts ‘Reconsider Me.’ Roger has also been a touring drummer with Steve Miller Band, as well as The HooDoo Rhythm Devils, touring extensively with Journey, The Tower of Power and The Pointer Sisters. He appeared on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson twice and played the Grand OIe Opry with Hank Williams, Jr.
“Recognizing Roger in this way is long overdue. Roger has been a part of many
unforgettable hits, and is more than deserving of this honor,” said Dixie Griffin, Hall of
Fame Director.
