Jimmy Earl Cross – Obituary

Jimmy Earl Cross, age 75, of Littleville, passed away on Saturday, May 05, 2018 at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Home in Florence.

Jimmy Earl accepted Christ as his Savior as a young boy and was baptized at Community Center Baptist Church in Red Bay, where his parents were charter members. He graduated from Red Bay High School in 1961, and later in life enjoyed having breakfast with his classmates every Tuesday at Jack’s in Red Bay. He retired after 31 years as a chemical operator at Monsanto/Solutia. After retirement, Jimmy could be found working around his house, enjoying time on the golf course, or spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and was an avid Alabama football fan.

The visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 07, 2018 at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Bro. James McCullar officiating. Burial will be at Halltown Cemetery in Red Bay.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis Lester Cross and Lurlie George Cross; and brothers, Oneal Cross, Fred Cross, and Tommy Cross.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 55 years, Sue McCalpin Cross; children, Rhonda Garrett (husband, Larry), Regina Hawkins (husband, Roger), Jason Cross (wife, Jennifer); grandchildren, Courtney Gober (husband, John), Will Cross, Emma Cross, Madison Hawkins, Katie Hawkins. and Rusty Garrett; sister, Pauline Jackson (husband, Buddy); and several nieces & nephews.

The pallbearers will be Will Cross, Allen Lowery, Eddy Lowery, Michael Cross, Anthony Cross, and Jared McCalpin. The honorary pallbearers will be fellow Monsanto retirees.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Home and to the staff of Kindred Hospice for the love and care our family.
