FLORENCE-The City of Florence has been designated a “Tree City USA” for the 31st consecutive year, by the National Arbor Day Foundation.  Earning this distinction was a City wide effort by the Florence Street, Electricity, Parks & Recreation Departments, Florence Housing Authority, the Mayor and City Council, and the Florence Tree Commission and Urban Forestry team.

A celebration of this achievement will be held at 10:00 AM, at the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library Conference Room, Thursday Feb 22, 2018.  The Public is invited.  A Proclamation from the Mayor will be read by Council Member Kaytrina Simmons, a flag ceremony presented by Boy Scout Troop 285, the invocation by Reverend Brandon Miles of First Presbyterian Church and the singing of the National Anthem by Dr. Jennifer Gray.

Immediately after the celebration is concluded, a Memorial Tree will be planted on Walnut Street in memory of Patsy Joyce Dahl, Matt Wright and Elba P. “Judy” Willis.  This Memorial Tree Planting by the Florence Tree Commission was made possible from donations received into the Memorial Tree Fund throughout the year of 2017.
